Minor explosion at Hexcel

Message below from Hexcel to the Parish Clerk 13 December 2018.  The Parish Council have a planned meeting with Hexcel next week.

“Thank you for contacting me.

I can confirm that there was an incident in one of Hexcel’s factories yesterday afternoon.  An oven in which we manufacture honeycomb caught fire and there was a small explosion.

Fortunately no one was injured. Our on-site fire team was at the scene immediately and soon had the fire under control.  The external emergency services were also quick to respond and stabilise the situation.  It’s too soon for us to comment about what may have caused the incident but we are now carrying out a full investigation, involving external specialists.

To comply with standard procedures we have informed the Health & Safety Executive (HSE).  Duxford parishioners can be reassured that Hexcel continues to operate a plant where health and safety is our number one priority.

We can further discuss during our meeting next week.
